The Hertfordshire Hurricanes played the their great adversaries, the Birmingham Lions, at Hatfield this weekend in the semi finals of the BUAFL championship. Hertfordshire have not lost at home for several seasons but were beaten twice last year by the dominant Lions.
It was probably the most exciting game I’ve shot, and one which one of the officials described as probably the best college game in 25 years of officiating.
The Lions took an early lead & entered halftime 22-6. The Hurricanes came out second half fired up for a match & in the last couple of minutes they intercepted a Lions pass for a TD, then took the 2-point conversion to lead 37-36.
Sadly for the ‘Canes, the Lions managed another TD in the last 2 minutes leaving Hertfordshire just 1 minute & 33 seconds to score. They ran the ball down the field but were unable to make that last score & for the second season running they went out in the semis to the Lions.
